Tangipahoa Parish Clerk of Court

Ask the Clerk

Welcome! Julian Dufreche, Clerk of Court, is pleased to provide this informational link to all the students in the Tangipahoa School System as well as those in private and parochial schools. Included on this page is voter registration information provided by the Registrar of Voters and links to web sites designed just for future young voters. Many students are not aware that as a 17 year old high school senior they may be eligible to serve as a commissioner at the voting precinct.

Commissioners hold an important place in our democracy; they conduct the election at each voting precinct in an orderly fashion, enforce the laws regarding voting and insure that each voter has the opportunity to vote.

The Commissioner-in-Charge is the person supervising the commissioners and guides them through the process of conducting the election. At the end of the day (the polls open at 6AM and close at 8PM) the Commissioners-in-Charge are responsible for delivering the election results for each precinct to the Clerk of Court.

Tangipahoa Parish has 84 voting precincts and generally there are 4 commissioners in each precinct. The Clerk of Court recruits new commissioners in order to have a reserve of fully trained commissioners ready to serve.
