INSTRUCTIONAL COURSE TO BE HELD FOR PROSPECTIVE (NEW) COMMISSIONERS

Julian E. Dufreche, Clerk of Court, announces that a course of instruction will be held for all persons interested in BECOMING a "new" commissioner. YOU MUST APPLY IN PERSON in accordance with R.S. 18:2, 18:425B, 18:428A - Qualifications.

A commissioner shall:

  1. be a qualified voter not entitled to assistance in voting.
  2. not be a candidate for public office in the election nor be a child, child's spouse, brother, brother's spouse, sister, sister's spouse, parent, spouse, or parents of the spouse of a candidate for election to public office in the precinct in which he serves;
  3. be registered to vote in the ward in which he serves, except when there are not enough available persons from the ward or when serving as a replacement, in which case he maybe selected as a commissioner in any precinct of the parish where he is registered to vote;
  4. not have been convicted of an election offense;
  5. (except when serving as a replacement), have attended a course of instruction for commissioners, received a certificate of instruction during the term of office of the clerk of court who conducted the school and have provided his correct party affiliation to the clerk of court; and
  6. not be a law enforcement officer.

If you know anyone who is interested in becoming a "new" commissioner, please ask them to join us. Commissioners receive $200.00 per election.
